Sharing files in a conversation

You can send files in any conversation, and everyone in it can open them. Files you upload into a conversation are also kept in your own Files.

Sending a file

Press the paperclip, then Choose a file for something on your device, or Choose from library for something already in your Files.

Or drag files onto the conversation and drop them where it says Drop files here to share them. You can drop several at once.

Files wait above the message box until you send, and you can write a message to go with them. Remove attachment takes one off before sending.

What you can send

Images        JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF             up to 10 MB
Video         MP4, WebM, MOV                   up to 100 MB
Audio         MP3, OGG, WAV, WebM, M4A         up to 50 MB
Other files   PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint,    up to 25 MB
              OpenDocument, TXT, CSV, RTF,
              EPUB, ZIP, HEIC and HEIF photos,
              code and text files

Anything else is refused with This type of file isn't supported. A file over its limit is refused with a message saying what the limit is.

Opening files

Files at the top of a conversation lists the files shared in it, newest first, under Shared Files. Pictures show in the conversation itself. PDFs, text, video and audio open in a preview, and other files offer Download.

Where your files are kept

Every file you upload into a conversation is also saved in Files → My Files, in a folder named Chat.

Removing a file you shared

Deleting the message a file came with does not take the file away: it stays in Shared Files. To stop sharing it, delete the file from Files → My Files. The conversation then shows File removed in its place. If you restore the file from Trash, it is shared again.
